Hi, I’m Patricia Mickus and I take the stress away from planning vacations so you can focus on creating memories with loved ones. As a family travel specialist, I can custom design a vacation full of adventure, smiles and special moments.
- Why did you decide to become a travel consultant?
I am a big believer that spending money on travel and experiences makes a happier family. By traveling together, we are able to make memories that will last a lifetime. We take ourselves out of our normal routine, keep distractions at a minimum and focus on enjoying time spent with each other. Nothing is better than a genuine laugh coming out of your kids or watching them experience something new for the first time. By becoming a travel consultant, I was able to help other families make these same memories — all while growing in a career I love.
- Tell us about your favorite vacation.
Family vacations are not limited to theme parks. My family has traveled extensively outside of the United States. Recently we vacationed at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica with 12 family members! Hearing about daily SCUBA adventures the kids experienced with their cousins each night at dinner was the highlight of the adults on the trip.
- What would be your ideal vacation?
I would love to travel through Europe for 2 months without worrying about a budget. As a college student, I backpacked for 6 weeks one summer. I have traveled back to Europe many times since graduation but only for 1-2 weeks at a time and always on a tight budget.
- Tell us a little about your family.
I live in Northern Virginia with my husband of 25+ years and I have two sons in college. We love to travel and have reached the age where the boys would prefer trips over any other gifts.
- Beach or mountains?
Although my favorite vacation spot is located on a beach, I would most defiantly choose the mountains. I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The Blue Ridge mountains were the backdrop of everyday life. My family owns a cottage there and we visit often. So many memories: hiking, fishing, and watching the sun set over the valley.
- What destinations do you specialize in?
For many families that first trip to Disney World is special. My first trip to Walt Disney World was almost 50 years ago during their opening year. Since then, I have taken 45+ trips to Disney destinations, staying at value, moderate and deluxe Disney properties. FP+, ADR, MB, EMH, DME, FOP, CM are these acronyms a foreign language to you? I can quickly help you through all the planning needed for your family to just sit back and enjoy the magic.
Do you have a Harry Potter fan? Looking for a bit more adrenaline? Why not add a few days at Universal Resorts Orlando.
Looking for white sands and blue waters? Let’s look at the Caribbean or Hawaii for the perfect tropical destination.
I have completed specialist training at: Disney Destinations, Universal Orlando Resort, Sandals and Beaches Resorts, AMResorts, Hawaii, Jamaica Tourism Board, Virgin Voyages, and Royal Caribbean Cruiselines.
- What is one of your funniest vacation memories?
My youngest son lost his first tooth while we were on a Disney cruise. He was so adorable talking to Tinker Bell… he wanted to make sure she would contact the “FCS” (fairy communication system) on his behalf. This way, the tooth fairy would know where he was in the ocean.
- What is your favorite Disney ride?
My favorite attraction is the Haunted Mansion. My Dad scared me so badly on my first visit (1972) that I had to be walked out by Disney Cast Members before jumping in the Doom Buggy. He still giggles and reminds me each time we visit.
- Anything else you want to tell us about?
I want to use my knowledge as a Family Travel Specialist to take the guesswork out of planning for you. By working closely with our travel partners, I custom design a once in a lifetime experience for your family.
